Student's communication policy
Dear student! We want to make an educational space comfortable, safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning. For this reason, we would like you to follow the advice below that will help us create such a space.
- Let's be careful with the words that we choose, and make sure that the tone of voice we are using is nice and polite. Respect people in the community and talk to them the way you would want them to talk with you.
- Let's be patient with each other. It is an educational space, and it is absolutely normal to ask clarifying questions. Just as it is normal when you are asked about something again. After all, we are here to learn.
- Let's avoid conflicts. We are all here to support and help each other on the way to new knowledge and an amazing future. No one wants to waste energy on conflicts and negative emotions.
- Let's try to understand why we disagree. Disagreements happen all the time. It is important that we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. Remember that we’re different. The strength of our community comes from its diversity, people from a wide range of backgrounds. Different people have different perspectives on issues. Being unable to understand why someone holds a viewpoint doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. Don’t forget that it is human to err and blaming each other doesn’t get us anywhere. Let's focus on working together to resolve issues and learning from mistakes.
- Let's avoid subjects irrelevant to our study. There are loads of sensitive topics, which could cause conflicts or hurt someone's feelings. The best practice is to avoid them.
For example:
- Politics
- Medical issues
- Personal Finances
- Family and relationship issues
- Health
- Gossip
- Anything illegal (drugs, violence, etc.)
- Let's remember that there are things which are absolutely inappopriate in our community:
- No one is allowed to engage in discriminatory speech or actions, based on any of the following:
- Race or ethnic origin
- National origin
- Religion or religious affiliation
- Disability or disease
- Gender, gender identity or sexual orientation
- Age
- Veteran status
- No one is allowed to stalk, harass, bully, or harm another individual.
- No one is allowed to engage in discriminatory speech or actions, based on any of the following:
