How to Find Answers and When to Ask Questions
When you face difficulties, you need to know how to deal with them. Sometimes you can find the answer independently, sometimes you need to contact your tutor or someone who has already overcome the challenge.
Searching for answers yourself
There are several options:
Option 1: Review previous lessons and tasks. If you don't understand the concept, go back to the lesson where it was introduced and explained. If the problem refers to a specific tool, read the instructions carefully.
Option 2: Search online! You will be surprised but the first five search results will contain the answer to your question.
Option 3: Check forums or other specialized resources. Your Slack group channel is like a professional forum. Remember its rules:
- Check if someone has already asked the same question before;
- If the question has already been asked, continue the discussion in the thread. Don't create a new thread dealing with the same issue.
If you can't find the answer independently, then you are free to create a new thread
Asking questions
- If your question is about organizational issues, ask your Community Manager;
- If the question is about lesson theory, post your question on Slack, and don't forget to tag your tutors or instructors or ask for explanations during the next webinar.
- What exactly do you want to find out? Be as specific as possible, providing context if necessary. For instance: "I was wondering what day the next webinar will be." or "When is our next webinar?"
- What have you already tried? Specify whether you managed to find the answer independently. For instance: "I checked the calendar and didn't find the date there."
Interacting with instructors and tutors in Slack
Make sure your question message reflects the following:
- What seems to be the problem?
- What is the interactive platform's output?
- Your pastebin.com link to your code
- The context in your question is clear
Keep your finger on the pulse
Find a balance between finding information on your own and asking for help immediately. It's important to ask questions before the deadlines come, but at the same time, you need to be able to work independently.
